Built in 1827, this house is a sophisticated early expression of Greek Revival architecture, retaining significant Federal period details. The front facade is dominated by a two-story Greek temple front, with narrow Doric columns supporting a fully pedimented gable. The main entrance is set in the rightmost bay on the front, with flanking sidelights and an elliptical Federal-style fan above. The style is transitional Federal to Greek Revival.
Essentially, it is a Federal style house with a Greek Revival temple front added to it. In addition to clearly Federal elements like the main entry and splayed lintels on the windows, it lacks the wide frieze below the eaves, typically found on Greek Revival buildings. It is delightfully transitional.
