Restoration Done Right

Before photo, Jim Leaman ~ after photo, Dave Clough

It is always a pleasure to wake up in my favorite Before & After, the Hench House in York, PA. It is a great example of what is possible – right down to replicating the original paint colors. It is an example of restoration done right!

Now known as The Lady Linden, it is operated as an AirBnB bed and breakfast by current owners Lukasz and Laura. They are wonderful hosts and I highly recommend a stay here!

Jim and Jean Leaman rescued the 1887 Hench House in York, PA from pending demolition and restored it over a decade ago. It is an excellent example of what is possible even for a house most people would consider “too far gone.”

Every house can’t be saved and some truly are too far gone to be saved, but many houses are destroyed every year that could have been saved. Knowing it is possible is often the first critical step toward accomplishing something good.

Hench House is one of 13 featured houses photographed by noted architectural photographer David Clough and presented between the how-to chapters of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.” It is also featured on the cover of the book.

The 720-page award-winning and best-selling hardcover book is available in bookstores and from online retailers.

Signed and personalized copies are available directly from the author in the shop on this site, https://yourhistorichouse.com/shop/.

Your local bookstore can order copies from W.W. Norton.
