A house beyond spectacular… Fallingwater.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed Fallingwater as a weekend retreat for Edgar and Liliane Kaufmann of Pittsburg, PA.
Located 70 miles from the city, it was recognized as an architectural masterpiece almost immediately upon completion in 1936. The American Institute of Architects has called it the “best all-time work of American architecture.”
I visited the house yesterday and highly recommend a visit to anyone who hasn’t been. In many ways, the interior is even more remarkable than the exterior. Information at: https://fallingwater.org/
Constructed with a combination of ancient masonry technology and then-new building technology, and now 85 years old, the house has presented considerable preservation challenges to the organization that owns it.
All historic house owners face challenges in restoring and preserving their homes. “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners” was written to help them understand their house, identify its character-defining features, and design and execute a restoration/rehab plan that preserves the important features of the house while making it livable for the 21st century.
The 720 page award-winning and best-selling hardcover book is available in bookstores and from online retailers.
Signed and personalized copies are only available in our shop, https://yourhistorichouse.com/shop/.
