Before & After ~ Col. Samuel Rockwell House, Milledgeville, GA.
Designed by architect Joseph Lane and built in 1838 for Colonel Samuel Rockwell, the house is transitional Federal to Greek Revival style.
It was occupied by a number of owners until 1962 and then remained vacant for nearly 60 years. Various efforts to restore the house through the years were not successful and one resulted in an accidental fire that cause further damage.
Finally, in 2019, three young investors succeeded in restoring the house for use as an inn and wedding/event center (RockwellHouseGA.com). Many more before and after photos, including interior views, can be found at LoveProperty.com: http://ow.ly/cJq950GSAkw
Every house can’t be saved and some truly are too far gone to be saved, but many houses are destroyed every year that could have been saved. Knowing it is possible is often the first critical step toward accomplishing something good.
I wrote “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners” to help people know what is possible, and how to achieve it.
