This fabulous Queen Anne style porch fronts two Italianate style row houses in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. The non-matching house facades are unified by a porch in a style that post-dates the Italianate style, which suggests the porch was added by the owners of the two houses as a joint project a decade or more after the houses were built. The result makes these two houses showstoppers on a street of beautiful historic houses overlooking a public park.
Historic porches are always character defining features of a historic house and often are found in poor condition due to their exposed locations. Preserving these features, or restoring them if lost, is key to maintaining or restoring the historic character of a house.
