My preservation consulting work takes me to many interesting historic buildings. One of the most interesting has been the Rev. Jonathan Fisher House in Blue Hill, Maine. Painted its original yellow color, it is an idiosyncratic example of the Federal style, more reflective of its builder than most houses.
Designed by its owner and built in 1814, it is exceptionally well documented for a house of the period, with Fisher’s working drawings, diary entries, and other related information still in the house. It is well worth a visit if you are visiting this beautiful part of the Maine coast.
While there, I met George O. Siekkinen, Jr., a summer resident of Blue Hill, former Senior Architect at the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and a true gentleman.
Subsequently, George wrote a blurb for the back cover of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners,” calling it: “an impressive and comprehensive guide for all those who consider it a pleasure and a privilege to own and preserve a beautiful survivor from the past and pass it onward to the next generation for enjoyment and shelter.”
Signed and personalized copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available directly from me in our shop, YourHistoricHouse.com/shop/.
Our shop also carries select preservation and restoration titles by other authors.
