This gorgeous Greek Revival house is in Louisiana. Often called America’s first National style, Greek Revival houses were built across the settled areas of the country between the 1820s and 1860s. It appears on small cottages and capes, grand columned mansions, southwestern adobe houses, and urban rowhouses.
This example is located in the Mississippi River town of Plaquemine, Louisiana. The Greek Revival style was at its peak of popularity at the same time the antebellum cotton wealth of the South was at its peak. Consequently, many houses in the region were built in this style.
