“An Ounce of Prevention…”

Fall is an excellent time to check your house for minor repairs that can head off major projects later. Seeing this gentleman touching up the paint on his fence brings to mind the Poor Richard’s Almanack maxim “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” While ostensibly about health, this maxim (like many) applies to much more. Ben Franklin was full of good advice, and for old house owners and this one is a gem.

A few hours spent touching up exterior paint each year can prolong the lifespan of a paint job many years. Similarly, a bit of rot repaired early on, a loose screw tightened, or a missing shingle replaced will save significant time and money in the long run.

A lot of good advice for old house owners can also be found in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”

Signed copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available from the author in our online shop at YourHistoricHouse.com/shop/.

Our shop also carries select preservation and restoration titles by other authors. Save on cost and shipping with our multi-book combo packs!

“Restoring Your Historic House” is also available in stores nationwide and from online retailers.
