Before Memorial Day weekend is over, let’s take a visit to this lovely Colonial Revival style summer cottage known as Dark Harbor House, located on an island off the coast of Maine.
The 20 room “cottage” was designed by noted architect Fred L. Savage and built for Philadelphia banker George Philler and his wife Ellen in 1896. Eventually it became an inn and when purchased by the current owners, it was suffering from significant structural and other issues. Today it is fully restored.
The house is one of the 13 Featured Houses photographed by noted architectural photographer David Clough and presented with historic and “before” photos between the how-to chapters of Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.
The 720-page best selling hardcover book is available in bookstores and from online retailers (it is currently 34% off on Amazon! http://ow.ly/N7ba50y4PSL).
Signed and personalized copies are available directly from the author on this site.
Your local bookstore can order copies from W.W. Norton.
