While it looks intact from the 19th century, the pantry was created in the 1990s, with a combination of salvaged historic and new materials. A modern refrigerator is tucked in an alcove out of sight to the left.
This room is a good example of a highly compatible new design for replacing a missing feature in a historic house. There are arguments for making new elements distinct from original materials (it is required for historic tax credit projects) but for a private home, it is acceptable to make the new blend seamlessly with the old.
