As we move into the holiday season, I am thinking about this great Walker & Pratt Manufacturing Co. #6 brick-set range. It is perfect for preparing a holiday feast! The range was made in Boston in 1879 and remains in its original location in the kitchen of the Eustis Mansion in Milton, MA. With two ovens, six burners, a roasting tray, and warming cabinet above the ovens, this range was ready to prepare any size meal.
Eustis Estate is a spectacular English Queen Anne style house with amazing Aesthetic Movement interiors. It is owned by Historic New England and is architect William R. Emerson’s only house open to the public. It will be decorated for the holidays this year and open to small tours by appointment! https://www.historicnewengland.org/property/eustis-estate-museum-study-center/
I was part of the team that did the historic paint analysis to restore the interior finishes, including the spectacular dining room where meals prepared on this range were served. The work we did is described in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners,” including before and after photos!
