Hench House in Snow

The fabulous Hench House in the snow. The Queen Anne style house, built in 1887, is featured on the cover of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners” and is a featured house in the book. The spread includes gorgeous photos of the restored house by noted architectural photographer David Clough and “before” and “during” photos of its dramatic restoration.

The York, PA house was under a demolition order when a retired couple who lived nearby stepped in to buy and restore it. A failed roof had allowed water to pour into the house for more than a decade and it had received no maintenance for far longer than that.

The restoration of this house, now known as the Lady Linden Bed and Breakfast, is a perfect illustration of what is possible when individuals are determined to preserve their community’s history.

“Restoring Your Historic House” includes 13 featured houses between the how-to chapters, ranging in date from the 1760’s to the 1950’s and geographically spread from Maine to New Mexico.

The 720 page award-winning and best-selling hardcover book is available online and in bookstores nationwide.

Signed and personalized copies can be ordered directly from the author in the shop on this page, Shop – Your Historic House.
