Festive Sugared Fruit

Festive sugared fruit centerpieces for the holidays were popular during the 19th century for those who could afford the luxuries of imported fruit in winter and white granulated sugar to coat it with.

This Victorian tradition is typically revived annually for our holiday open house, holding pride of place at the center of the table in the restored 1827 kitchen of Whitten House.

The restoration of this room, including the reconstruction of the functional cooking hearth and brick oven, is an example project in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”

The 720 page award-winning and best-selling hardcover book is available in bookstores and from online retailers.

Signed copies are available directly from the author in from the shop on this page, Shop – Your Historic House.

Bookstores can order copies from their W.W. Norton rep.
