A beautiful Greek Revival house in New Orleans.
I was in New Orleans for the Society for Historic Archeology conference in January 2018 and was determined to get out and get photos for the architectural styles examples in Chapter 2 of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”
With only a few hours available, I power-walked to and through the French Quarter and Garden District snapping photos of good examples of different styles. In spite of limited time and challenging lighting conditions on many of the houses, I was able to get quite a few shots that made it into the book. This house is a lovely example of the Greek Revival style. It’s popularity from the 1820s through the 1850s corresponded with the period of westward migration by the expanding US population, which resulted in the style appearing from coast to coast.
