Italianate Exuberance

Italianate Exuberance. This door hood with beautifully carved brackets survived when this house was largely stripped of its trim and ornamentation and covered with asbestos siding after World War II.

Fortunately, ghosts of the missing trim elements remained in the paint under the asbestos siding and historic photos provided more information allowing the house to be restored to its historic character.

This project is an example case in Chapter 13, Exterior Trim and Windows, in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”

The 720 page award-winning and best-selling hardcover book is available in bookstores nationwide and from online retailers.

Signed and personalized copies are available directly from the author in the shop on this page, https://yourhistorichouse.com/shop/. International shipping is now available!

Bookstores can order copies from W.W. Norton.
