Victorian Stained Glass

The Victorians loved stained glass! This 1880’s Aesthetic Movement window is a beautiful example.

They were often placed in stairwells to allow warm colored light to flow down into the hall below, or used as transoms above clear glass windows. Many houses of the later 19th and early 20th century have beautiful stained or art glass windows – often in need of repair or full restoration.

100+ years of gravity, wind, and human neglect or abuse can leave a window in rough shape. Fortunately, there are skilled craftspeople and artists who can restore them to their original splendor. Your local historic preservation organization often can help you find qualified specialists.

“Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners” includes a chapter filled with resources for restoration specialists and materials across the U.S. The 720 page award-winning and best-selling hardcover book is available in bookstores nationwide and from online retailers.

Signed copies are available directly from the author in the shop on this page, https://yourhistorichouse.com/shop/. International shipping is now available!

Your local bookstore can order copies from W.W. Norton.
