“A stitch in time saves nine.” – Benjamin Franklin.
I saw this gentleman touching up the paint on his fence while out for a walk and immediately thought of the Poor Richard’s Almanack maxim “A stitch in time saves nine.” While referencing textiles, this maxim (like most) applies to much more. Ben Franklin was full of good advice and for old house owners, this one is a gem.
A few hours spent touching up exterior paint each spring can prolong the lifespan of a paint job many years. Similarly, a bit of rot repaired early on, a loose screw tightened, or a missing shingle replaced will save significant time and money in the long run.
Lots of good advice for old house owners can be found in Franklin’s maxims, and in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.” The 720-page best-selling hardcover book now available in bookstores and from online retailers.
Signed and personalized copies are available directly from the author in the shop on this page, https://yourhistorichouse.com/shop/.
Local bookstores can order copies from W.W. Norton.
