The High Victorian Gothic style of the Charles B. Smith House, built in 1870 in Hartford, CT, is the masonry cousin of the wood-framed Stick Style. These houses often feature polychrome brick, stone, and/or tile on the exteriors with expressive wood trim elements at the gables and often on porches. The dormers on the angled bay that extends up into a tower roof really create a dynamic skyline and added excitement to an otherwise somewhat restrained design for the style.
