Historic Mid-Century Modern

Mid-Century Modern is historic!

How fab is this rec room bar? It is an original feature of the Ranch style Weston House, built in 1957. At 65 years old, the house is as old today as a house built in 1892 was at the time of its construction.

Typical Mid-Century materials and character-defining features seen here include the birch plywood used for the bar and shelving, sheet paneling on the walls, pressed-paper ceiling tiles, recessed lighting, and the back-lit translucent fiberglass used behind the shelving.

The Weston House is one of 13 featured homes photographed by noted architectural photographer David Clough for “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.” These beautifully restored houses, built between 1760 and 1960, are presented between the how-to chapters of the book.

The award-winning and bestselling 720-page volume is available in bookstores nationwide and from online retailers.
