Before and After ~ The Herman C. Timm House in New Holstein, Wisconsin, is a significant example of the Stick style, a variation on the Queen Anne style. This house illustrates what is possible in restoring historic homes and the importance of using historically appropriate colors to honor the original design intent.
The house has been a historic home musem since the 1970s but experienced significant water damage due to a roof leak and then a broken water pipe that poured a half-million gallons of water into the first floor and basement in the late 1990s. The New Holstein Historical Society raised $1.2 million to restore the house and reopened it to the public in 2007.
“Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners,” is filled with information to help historic house lovers restore their homes.
