New meets old. Fine work by window restorer Kurt Riegel, installing a new replacement muntin in an early 19th century window sash. Young people learning old skills gives me hope for the future.
Historic window sash were designed and constructed to be repaired, unlike modern window sash. If a modern sash is damaged, it has to be thrown out and replaced with another new sash. Damaged or deteriorated historic sash can be repaired and continue to serve their function for another century or more.
Experienced window restorers like Kurt can be found in most parts of the US today. The Window Preservation Alliance maintains an online directory of window restoration professionals at: https://windowpreservationalliance.org/.
