Before & After ~ Ridlon Camp, an example of what is possible. Ridlon Camp was built in 1908 by Frank Ridlon, a successful Boston electrical supply company owner with a passion for fly fishing.
It was the owner’s personal cabin in a private family camp complex in the Rangeley Lakes region of Maine, an area known for excellent fishing. The camp eventually was subdivided and Ridlon’s cabin separated from the other cabins. Over time it was stripped of its front porch, windows, and other historic features. Its restoration has involved restoring key historic elements while introducing some 21st century comforts.
Knowing it is possible is often the first critical step toward accomplishing something good. The restoration of the Ridlon Camp can be an example to others, and that is the reason it is included in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”
Ridlon Camp is one of 13 featured houses photographed by noted architectural photographer David Clough and presented between the how-to chapters of the book.
