A wonderful Tudor Revival style house built in 1931. The Klehm House in Kearney, Nebraska was designed in the popular Tudor Revival style by its owner Walter Klehm, a professor of Manual Arts at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Tudor Revival was a popular romantic style for homes in the early 20th century, from small “storybook” kit-house cottages to the grand mansions that led the style to be nicknamed “Stockbroker Tudor.” These wonderful houses survive in all sizes from Maine to California.
The steep intersecting gabled roof that swoops down over an arched door to the back yard, rough textured stucco walls with brick accents, arched-top entry door with strap iron hinges, bold chimney, and hint of half-timbering are all common elements of the style. The matching garage is especially wonderful.
