I saw this gentleman touching up the paint on his fence while out for a walk and immediately thought of the “Poor Richard’s Almanack” maxim “A stitch in time saves nine.” While referencing textiles, this maxim (like many) applies to much more. Ben Franklin was full of good advice and for old house owners, this one is a gem.
A few hours spent touching up exterior paint each autumn can prolong the lifespan of a paint job many years. Similarly, a bit of rot repaired early on, a loose screw tightened, or a missing shingle replaced will save significant time and money in the long run.
