Recreating missing historic features is often part of restoring a house. This fireplace, brick oven, mantel, chimney cupboard, and much of the associated trim) had been removed decades before I bought the house.
With the help of a master mason who is an expert on historic cooking fireplaces and ovens, the missing elements were recreated/restored, and the room again looks and functions as it did when new in 1827.
The restoration of this room is described and shown in detail as an example project in Chapter 17 of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”
