A National Historic Landmark, the house is owned by the National Park Service and operated as a museum interpreted to the time of King’s occupancy as a child. While specific to King’s childhood in the 1930s, the house also represents how many other successful Black families lived in Atlanta during that period. More information can be found at: www.nps.gov/articles/kingsite.htm

Visiting historic house museums is a wonderful way to get inspiration for your home restoration projects. These properties often use specialized methods and materials in their restoration work that homeowners can also use.

Restoration methods and materials used by museums are included among the approaches presented in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”
