For nearly a century, one of America’s most popular magazines was named House and Garden. Houses and gardens go together, and many historic places have historic gardens. This garden, located in the French Quarter of New Orleans, was created by novelist Francis Parkinson Keyes in the mid-20th century.

It is on the site of an early 19th-century garden that a macaroni factory had replaced. After restoring the house next door as her winter home, Keyes had the factory torn down to create the garden. It remains an oasis in the bustling Quarter.

Known as the Historic BK House and Garden today, the house and garden are open to the public and available for event rentals. https://www.bkhouse.org/
