Spartanburg, SC, Queen Anne

I had the pleasure of touring the Hampton Heights Historic District in March. This beautiful late Queen Anne style house is the jewel of the district again after restoration following a devastating fire.

The c. 1892 Arthur Irwin House is a stunning example of the style with an asymmetrical composition and a variety of textures and ornamentation. Typical features of the style include a complex roof form, patterned shingles, a tower, and a wrap-around porch with turned and scroll-cut ornament, all of which are found in this beautiful house.

Understanding the style of a house is the essential first step in developing a restoration plan that prioritizes the preservation and restoration of character-defining features while making changes to accommodate modern life.

More than 50 color photos illustrate the Queen Anne style in Chapter 2 of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”

Signed and personalized copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available from the author in our shop, YourHistoricHouse.com/shop/.

Our shop also carries select preservation and restoration titles. Save on cost and shipping with our multi-book combo packs!
