Historic BK House Parlor

Front Parlor of the Historic BK House in New Orleans’ French Quarter. The Historic BK House was built in the 1820s and had its famous portico added to the facade a decade later. It was home to three wealthy families before entering an extended period of mixed uses after the Civil War.

In the 1940s, it was rented by the best-selling author Frances Parkinson Keyes, who bought and restored the house in the 1950s. It remained her winter home until her death in the 1970s and has been open to the public since then.

In recent years, significant work has been done to stabilize and restore the exterior to its 1830s appearance, preparing the house for the next century of use. In addition to being a museum house, it is available for event rentals and is a popular venue for weddings. http://www.bkhouse.org/

All aspects of restoration are covered in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”
