Deerfield Georgian House in Autumn

This house is a beautiful example of mid-18th century Georgian Colonial architecture located in Deerfield, MA. It has a bold and sculptural door surround and double paneled doors, features characteristic of the Connecticut River Valley. The village is home to Historic Deerfield, which has eleven historic buildings open to the public and a fine museum of early New England life. It is well worth visiting any season, but especially in autumn, when Mother Nature puts on a show.

Visiting museum houses can be a great way to learn about historic architecture and appropriate restoration approaches and methods. https://www.historic-deerfield.org/

Understanding the style of a house and its character-defining features is the first step in planning a rehab/restoration project that retains the house’s character.

More than 20 examples are included to illustrate the Georgian Colonial style in Chapter 2 of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”
