Before and After ~ I.W.P. Buchanan House in Lebanon, Tennessee.

The Buchanan House is a great example of what can be done to save a threatened historic house with the right combination of knowledge, skill, and other resources. The c. 1894 house was designed by George F. Barber, an architect known for the house designs he marketed through mail-order catalogs. Operating from Knoxville, TN, Barber was one of the most successful residential architects of the late Victorian period in the United States with examples of his houses in all 50 states.

The Buchanan House is an example of the Design No. 56 from Cottage Souvenir 2nd and 4th Editions. Buchanan (1866-1943) was a university mathematics professor at Cumberland University, helped organize the Wilson County Bank in 1884 and later was cashier with Lebanon National Bank.
