A wonderful Queen Anne style house designed by architect Edward I. Nickerson 1885, it typifies the idiosyncratic eclecticism of the Queen Anne style. skillfully crafted masonry, wood shingles, slate, and sheet copper are combined in a picturesque composition. Its rooftop gables, dormers, and tall, sculptured chimneys in brick culminates in a corner tower; its curvature and the complexity of its rooftop forms are echoed on both elevations by bowed bay windows of varying size.

The Victorian era Queen Anne Style developed in England and made its way to America in the 1870s. Faithful examples following the English style were initially used for grand mansions. As its American variation spread, it was used for everything from mansions to millworker cottages.

Queen Anne is one of 25 styles and types described and illustrated with hundreds of color photos in Chapter 2 of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”
