This sweet Queen Anne style cottage in Cape May, New Jersey was built in 1878. The community was one of America’s first summer resorts and the construction of fanciful summer cottages took off after the arrival of the railroad from Philadelphia in 1863. The timing was perfect for the cottages and hotels to be built in a variety of the popular styles of the Victorian era. Hundreds of them survive in wonderful condition, like Buttercup Cottage. Today, Cape May is the only entire U.S. city listed as a National Historic Landmark district.
