The best way to learn about historic houses is to look at them closely, and the most fun way to look at them closely is to do a puzzle showing a wonderful historic house! So, we made a unique and interesting collection of Historic House Puzzles for you to enjoy!

This Week’s Puzzle! ~ Making Art from History
When my friend Jerry Copan Jr. rehabbed the kitchen in his 140-year-old house, he and his partner, Ryan, removed four layers of flooring to reveal the original hardwood, which was refinished. The bottom layer was a linoleum ‘rug’, likely from the 1920s or 30s. The linoleum was too damaged to keep in use on the floor, but Jerry creatively saw how to keep a memory of it in the house by saving a piece of the linoleum and having it framed to hang in the rehabbed kitchen. The antique frame perfectly complements the linoleum.
Linoleum is made from cork and natural resins and was introduced in the late 19th century. Although largely displaced by vinyl flooring after WWII, linoleum is now enjoying a resurgence as an all-natural, biodegradable, and sustainable flooring option. A number of historic patterns are back in production and more seem to appear every year.
Linoleum is one of many historic floorcoverings included in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.” Signed and personalized copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available from the author in our shop at YourHistoricHouse.com/shop/.
Our shop also carries select preservation and restoration titles by other authors.
