The New Bathroom at Dow Farm

This “Victorian” bathroom at Dow Farm in Maine is new. The marble sink top, faucets, toilet and toilet slate are antique salvage, the cherry cabinetry, beadboard walls and ceiling, and floor are new. Few new bathrooms are this authentic in feeling, but it can be done. The room also contains an antique tin tub in new cherry cabinetry. A modern stall shower is tucked in an alcove at the other end of the room.

The bathroom is the most recent project at Dow Farm, one of the 13 featured houses in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.” Designing new bathrooms for historic houses of different periods is covered in Chapter 3.
