A Featured House in “Restoring Your Historic House”

Dow Farm is a Featured House in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”

The 1769 Dow Farm in Standish, Maine, was restored over a 50-year period by a unique collaboration between a restoration carpenter tenant and the family that has owned the property since the 1840s. Sometimes the way to save the family homestead is to creatively expand the family.

Every house can’t be saved, but thousands of houses are destroyed every year that could have been restored. Knowing what is possible is often the first critical step toward accomplishing something. Saving Houses is Possible!

The restoration of Dow Farm is an example for others, and that is why it is one of the featured houses in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”

The 13 featured houses were photographed by noted architectural photographer David Clough and are presented between the how-to chapters of the book. Each includes historic, before, and during restoration photos as well as Dave’s images of the finished project. These houses range geographically from Maine to New Mexico and in date from c. 1760 to 1957.

Signed and personalized copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available from the author in our online shop at YourHistoricHouse.com/shop/.
