The best way to learn about historic houses is to look at them closely, and the most fun way to look at them closely is to do a puzzle showing a wonderful historic house! So, we made a unique and interesting collection of Historic House Puzzles for you to enjoy!

Cast iron was the plastic of the Victorian age. Its ability to be cast into forms both functional and ornamental led to its widespread use. Sometimes it mimicked classical designs traditionally made of stone or wood, like the Greek anthemion motif in this railing design, and sometimes more fanciful forms.
Combined with advances in transportation (steam ships and railroads primarily), it was made its way into and onto homes all across the nation. This example is used to create a faux balcony on a row of mid-19th century Greek Revival row houses in Portland, Maine.
The exterior ornament on and around a historic house always reflects the time in which it was created and helps to identify the style of the house. The loss of such elements will have a negative impact on the character of the house.
If your house has historic ironwork that is deteriorated, damaged, or missing, there are appropriate ways to restore or replace it. This topic is covered in detail in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”
Signed and personalized copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available from the author in our online shop at YourHistoricHouse.com/shop. Our shop also carries select preservation and restoration titles by other authors.
