How fab is this historic mid-century modern rec room bar?
The residential architecture of the Post World War II period introduced new forms and materials to accommodate new ideas and ways of living. Production of plywood, plastics, and other new materials was expanded dramatically for the war effort. That production capacity was redirected toward home construction after the war.
Americans who had survived the Great Depression and then the war were eager to embrace new ideas that held no reminders of those dark years. This bar in the rec room of the Weston House captures the spirit of the time perfectly.
The Weston House was built in 1957 and is one of 13 featured homes photographed by noted architectural photographer David Clough for “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”
These beautifully restored houses, built between 1760 and 1960, are presented between the how-to chapters of the book.
