The best way to learn about historic houses is to look at them closely, and the most fun way to look at them closely is to do a puzzle showing a wonderful historic house! So, we made a unique and interesting collection of Historic House Puzzles for you to enjoy!
Originally built as a Greek Revival style house in 1843, this granite block house in Fall River, Massachusetts, was disassembled and moved three-quarters of a mile in 1870. It was reconstructed and enlarged in the then-current Second Empire Style with a polychrome slate Mansard roof.
It was then occupied by two of the city’s prominent industrialist families, the Remingtons for eight years and the Braytons, for 59 years. In 1937 it was donated to the Fall River Historical Society and remains their headquarters and museum today.
Many examples of the Second Empire style are shown with character-defining features keyed on the photos in Chapter 2 of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.” Hundreds of homes from more than 22 states are included in the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book, available in bookstores nationwide and from online retailers.
Signed and personalized copies are available directly from the author in our online shop at YourHistoricHouse.com/shop/.
