This Week’s Puzzle ~ Springfield Tudor Revival

The best way to learn about historic houses is to look at them closely, and the most fun way to look at them closely is to do a puzzle showing a wonderful historic house! So, we made a unique and interesting collection of Historic House Puzzles for you to enjoy!

Springfield Tudor Revival

A wonderful Tudor Revival house in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Tudor Revival style of the early 20th century looked toward the England of Queen Elizabeth I for inspiration. These ranged from โ€œstorybookโ€ cottages to grand mansions, with the former a popular option in mail-order kit house catalogs in the early twentieth century. This wonderful example is typical of the upper middle-class homes built in the style from coast to coast.

Characteristic features of the style include masonry construction (often combining brick, stone, and/or stucco), half timbering, prominent chimneys with chimney pots, small-paned windows, and arched entry doors – all found on this house.

Understanding the style, or styles, of a house will help you identify which features are character-defining so you can prioritize their preservation. Tudor Revival is one of 25 styles described and illustrated with multiple examples in Chapter 2 of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”

Signed and personalized copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available from the author in our online shop at YourHistoricHouse.com/shop
