The best way to learn about historic houses is to look at them closely, and the most fun way to look at them closely is to do a puzzle showing a wonderful historic house! So, we made a unique and interesting collection of Historic House Puzzles for you to enjoy!

A wonderful c. 1885 Queen Anne style house in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Dr. William W. Crook arrived in Cheyenne in 1875, just eight years after the Union Pacific Railroad established the frontier boomtown as they extended their line westward. Between 1884 and 1890, he had this stylish house built just a few blocks from where the territorial and later state capitol building was built during the same period.
A picturesque house with asymmetrical composition and a variety of textures and ornamentation. Typical features of the style include the bay window, tower, and a porch with turned and scroll-cut ornament. Popularized by magazines and house plan books, Queen Anne style houses were built from coast to coast. Technological advancements, including the development of balloon framing and steam mills to produce turned and sawn wood ornament, allowed the construction of houses with complex forms and elaborate detail at affordable prices for middle-class buyers.
Understanding the style of a house is the essential first step in developing a restoration plan that prioritizes the preservation and restoration of character-defining features while making changes necessary for modern life in an old house. More than 50 color photos illustrate the Queen Anne style in Chapter 2 of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”
Signed and personalized copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available from the author in our online shop at YourHistoricHouse.com/shop/.
