The best way to learn about historic houses is to look at them closely, and the most fun way to look at them closely is to do a puzzle showing a wonderful historic house! So, we made a unique and interesting collection of Historic House Puzzles for you to enjoy!

Palo Alto Mediterranean Revival

Mediterranean Revival style houses of the early 20th century take inspiration from historic Spanish and Italian architecture. They often are reminiscent of villas in seaside Mediterranean towns, with clay roof tiles, stucco exteriors, and a blend of indoor-outdoor living spaces. These houses were particularly well-suited to regions that experience semitropical or tropical summer weather.

This lovely 1920s or 1930s example is on a quiet tree-lined street in Palo Alto, California. There were a number of popular romantic revival styles in the first decades of the 20th century, particularly after two million American soldiers saw the architecture of Europe during World War I. These houses ranged from small mail-order cottages with hints of Tudor style to academically correct architect-designed mansions replicating historic European styles.

25 historic architectural styles are described and illustrated in Chapter 2 of “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.” Signed and personalized copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available from the author at YourHistoricHouse.com/shop/.

Our shop also carries related preservation and restoration tiles by other authors. “Restoring Your Historic House is also available in bookstores nationwide and from online retailers.
