This Italianate style portico is being decked out for the season by a group of mannequins in festive Victorian era dress. The Victorian love of architectural ornament is one of the defining characteristics of the age and they applied it everywhere they could, and then decorated it.

Entrances are character-defining features on many historic houses and their preservation should be a priority when restoring a house. Historic doors can be made tight with good quality weather stripping and storm panels can be added to sidelights and transoms to make them equivalent to modern insulated glass.
