The Shaker Trustees’ House Puzzle

The best way to learn about historic houses is to look at them closely, and the most fun way to look at them closely is to do a puzzle showing a wonderful historic house! So, we made a unique and interesting collection of Historic House Puzzles for you to enjoy!

The Shaker Trustees’ House

The building at center is the Trustees’ House at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in New Gloucester, Maine. The United Society of Believers, commonly called Shakers, was founded in 1747 in Manchester, England and relocated to America in 1774.
The first Community was at New Lebanon, NY. Eventually eighteen Communities were established in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Georgia and Florida. The Community had some 5,000 souls during the 1850s. Today they are best known for their spare and elegant furniture.

The Sabbathday Lake village consists of 18 historic buildings located on 1,800 acres. It is the last active Shaker community in the world with two surviving Shakers and has the only Shaker museum created by the Shaker’s themselves. Visiting historic house museums is a wonderful way to get inspiration for your home restoration projects.
Restoration methods and materials used by museums are included among the approaches presented in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.”
