A year ago today my work took me to the very interesting Rev. Jonathan Fisher House in Blue Hill, Maine. Designed by its owner and built in 1814, it is exceptionally well documented for a house of the period, with Fisher’s working drawings, diary entries, and other related information still in the house, along with furniture made by Fisher. Although closed this year, it is well worth a visit if you are visiting this beautiful part of the Maine coast in the future.
While there, I met George O. Siekkinen, Jr., former Senior Architect at the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Subsequently, he wrote a blurb for the back cover of my book, Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners, calling it: “an impressive and comprehensive guide for all those who consider it a pleasure and a privilege to own and preserve a beautiful survivor from the past and pass it onward to the next generation for enjoyment and shelter.”
