Beautiful Double Doors

Double doors became fashionable with the Italianate and Second Empire styles in the 1850’s and 60’s. This beautiful example has lovely etched glass panels, as many doors of this type did.

Many earlier Federal and Greek Revival houses lost their original single door and sidelights for up-to-date Victorian double doors during this period. Understanding how your house has changed over time is important when planning your restoration project and is explored in depth in Chapter 3 of Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners.

The 720 page award-winning and best-selling hardcover book is available in bookstores and from online retailers (it is currently 10% off on Amazon: http://ow.ly/N7ba50y4PSL).
