Before & After ~ Exuberant Paint Scheme

Before & After ~ This spectacular Queen Anne style house is in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco, a block from the epicenter of the 1967 “Summer of Love.” The current exuberant paint scheme manages to honor both the Victorian era of its construction and the psychedelic aesthetic of the 1960s.

This Chronicle article is about how the owner, Chip Isaac, painter Brian Huntley of Historic Painting & Restoration, and colorist Dean Pearson undertook its colorful transformation: http://ow.ly/5N7c50LFQW8

The Victorian-era houses of northern California have a particular exuberance, often exceeding the excesses seen on houses of the period elsewhere. Original trim elements are always character-defining features of a house and should be preserved or restored if at all possible.

“Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners” includes information on exterior trim repair and designing appropriate and compatible replacements for elements that have been lost.

Signed and personalized copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available from the author in our shop, YourHistoricHouse.com/shop/.

Our shop also carries select preservation and restoration titles by other authors, including “A Field Guide to American Houses” by Virginia McAlester. Save with our multi-book combo packs!
