This Week’s Puzzle ~ Ashland, Lexington, Kentucky

The best way to learn about historic houses is to look at them closely, and the most fun way to look at them closely is to do a puzzle showing a wonderful historic house! So, we made a unique and interesting collection of Historic House Puzzles for you to enjoy!

Ashland, Lexington, Kentucky Puzzle

Ashland was the estate of 19th century statesman Henry Clay. Not well-known today outside Kentucky, Clay was hugely influential in our federal government from the time of Thomas Jefferson through President James K. Polk. Clay’s Missouri Compromise allowed Maine to become a state in 1820 and his “Great Compromise” of 1850 delayed the Civil War by a decade.

Italianate style house is fabulous though not exactly the one Clay lived in. His son resolved structural problems with the original Federal style house by having it rebuilt on the same foundation with better brick and up-to-date Italianate detailing a year after his father’s death in 1852. museum homes is a great way to see how houses looked historically and learn about how they’ve been restored.
