One of America’s most famous neighborhoods, the Garden District is filled with wonderful 19th and early 20th century homes. This is a charming example from the last quarter of the 19th century. Emerging from English Queen Anne style, American Queen Anne developed its own distinctive characteristics.
The style often incorporated features like the scalloped shingle and clapboard siding, wrap-around porches with turned posts, and upper story porches seen in this example. Also typical of the style are the bay windows, dormers, and varied window shapes.
