First-hand experience…

Author Scott T. Hanson restoring a plaster ceiling in Whitten House.

The information presented in “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners” is based on more than 40 years’ first-hand experience in the field of historic preservation – and I have the tendonitis to prove it!

This photo is from the ceiling restoration case study in Chapter 16, which shows the process step-by-step in more than four dozen photos.

Historic plaster is a character-defining feature of many historic houses. The subtle movement of a hand-applied material can never be matched by machine-made sheets of gypsum board with all too obvious joints at 4′ intervals. Gypsum board also lacks the sound-deadening quality of historic plaster on lath.

The 720-page award-winning and best-selling hardcover book is available in bookstores and from online retailers.
